Why Can't I Get My Ultra Sound Results Now?

You may have had an ultrasound done and have asked the big question.. DOES EVERYTHING LOOK OKAY?

But the ultrasound tech replies with, "I'm sorry, I cannot provide that information to you."

Now, you might start panicking.

The truth is that the ultrasound technician is not allowed to provide any information due to their title.

An ultrasound technician’s job is to get adequate images to help rule out the possibility of disease or abnormalities. Just because a technician may not tell you that everything looks okay, does not mean there is something wrong. By law, the only person that can discuss the results of your ultrasound is, in fact, your medical provider, such as your OB provider or GYN provider.

Prior to your ultrasound results getting to your provider, it must be read by a radiologist. The radiologist reviews all the images, that the ultrasound technician takes, to rule out any possible abnormalities or disease. Once the radiologist finalizes the report, your provider will receive the final report, which then is reviewed at the follow-up office visit with your provider.

For OB ultrasounds:

Some information an OB ultrasound tech may be able to share with you about baby is:

* How fast the baby heart is going

* How much the baby weighs

* Gender, if you want to know

Remember to enjoy the moment of your ultrasound while watching your baby grow! A bonus each OB ultrasound tech gets to do while performing an ultrasound, is getting those epic pictures, a thumb in the mouth, a high five, or even the tongue sticking out.
