What is a Biophysical Profile?

The Biophysical Profile (BPP) is a 30-minute ultrasound performed during pregnancy, often in the third trimester. It assesses fetal heart rate, amniotic fluid levels, muscle tone, body movements, and practice breathing. The BPP helps visualize the baby's well-being, providing a score based on these parameters.

Third trimester ultrasounds estimate a baby's size by measuring amniotic fluid, the placenta, and fetal anatomy. These measurements provide an estimated weight, but factors like muscle mass and bone density can cause variations. While not 100% accurate, sonographers aim for the closest possible estimate to the baby's true size.
