We check for iron deficiency/anemia at a minimum of 3 different times throughout your pregnancy. The first check will be at your initial appointment, second one will be when you are entering your third trimester (around 28 weeks), and lastl, when you are going in for labor. If you are mildly anemic, we may just recommend increasing iron in your diet. If you are moderately to severely anemic, we will likely recommend a daily iron supplement, or even having an IV infusion of iron. We recommend using a liquid iron like Floradix twice a day, since the liquid iron is usually easier on your stomach! Just like with adding it to your diet, it is important to take it with Vitamin C, taking it at least 1-2 hours before or after taking your prenatal vitamin, and not having it with coffee/tea or calcium.
